Tommy Bowe scored two tries against England at Twickenham |
Tommy Bowe has been named as the Irish Players' Player of the Year. Bowe's award, which repeats his 2008 honour, was little surprise after he was voted this season's Six Nations Player of the Year. Connacht's Fionn Carr was named Young Player of the Year while Girvan Dempsey was inducted into the Irish Players Association's Hall of Fame. Ulster's Andrew Trimble won the try of the year of the award for his score against Bath in the Heineken Cup. John Fogarty collected the unsung hero award while his Leinster team-mate Jamie Heaslip was voted supporters' player of the year. Ospreys and Ireland winger Bowe was delighted with the award. "I'm absolutely thrilled, it's great to be recognised by the other players especially when you're playing overseas," added the Monaghan man. Dempsey recently announced that he is to retire at the end of the season. The O2 Team of the Decade was also announced at the awards and the top 15 included Keith Wood, Peter Stringer, Brian O'Driscoll and Denis Hickie. The team included nine Munster players, four from Leinster, Bowe, formerly an Ulster player but now with the Ospreys, and Kildare native Geordan Murphy of Leicester Tigers.
