Archive, December 2008: Scrum V has Tiatia feeling Groggy
Ospreys and ex-New Zealand number eight Filo Tiatia says he will end his playing days at the end of the season.
The 38-year-old, who took on a coaching role at the region last year, has made a huge impact since arriving at the Liberty Stadium in May 2006.
"[I will take] a full-time coaching role, hopefully I can continue to make a positive contribution," said Tiatia.
Tiatia is on the bench for Friday's visit of the Dragons, potentially his last home appearance for the Ospreys.
The Welsh side have secured a Magners League play-off semi-final ahead of the Welsh derby, but need to stay ahead of Glasgow and Munster for a home draw.
"It will be good to end with a bit of success, with some silverware," said Tiatia, who has made 96 appearances for the Ospreys, scoring 10 tries, since arriving from Japanese side Toyota Verblitz.
I've no doubt that he will be regarded as one of the best overseas signings that regional rugby has seen
Ospreys managing director Mike Cuddy
"There are so many memories with the Ospreys, but if I was pushed [for my favourite] I'd say it was the second EDF final at Twickenham against Leicester.
"I hold a special place for the Liberty Stadium, and especially for the fans.
"When you hear your name being sung, it's something special, a privilege really."
Ospreys coach Sean Holley was eager to lead the tributes to the Wellington-born former Hurricanes back-rower, who won his two All Black caps in 2000 against Tonga and Italy.
"His attitude has galvanised many Ospreys performances and he has brought the group together in many ways," said Holley.
"His professionalism, outlook and attitude has transcended overseas players, young and old players, internationals and domestic players alike, they have all bought into his way of thinking.
"The condition he has kept himself in, and to be doing what he is still doing despite his age is incredible.
"It has been a real credit to him, and I have absolutely no doubt that he has established himself as an Ospreys legend."
Ospreys managing director Mike Cuddy added: "I've no doubt that he will be regarded as one of the best overseas signings that regional rugby has seen."
