Davies says the Scarlets can end on a high against Glasgow |
Scarlets boss Nigel Davies says the painful experiences of a season that ends against Glasgow on Friday will serve them well next season. And as he targeted a Magners League win to end their season, Davies says the Scarlets are a better team than their second-from-bottom place suggests. Davies said: "It's never pleasant when you go through painful times, but as they say, no pain, no gain. "I think it's from tough experiences that you actually gain and you learn." The Scarlets claimed a Heineken Cup pool double against London Irish, but were twice overwhelmed by Leinster as their campaign ended ahead of the knock-out stages. | When things are going well, things have a momentum of their own and you don't necessarily gain a lot from that. |
However, they went on to claim a notable win at Brive in the Amlin Challenge Cup before coming unstuck against Toulon, who meet Cardiff Blues in the final on 23 May in Marseille. Glasgow travel to Parc y Scarlets bidding for a top-two finish that would give them a home draw in the inaugural play-offs. Davies said: "When things are going well, things have a momentum of their own and you don't necessarily gain a lot from that. "But we've had some hard times this year. We've had a look at ourselves and we're constantly looking at ourselves and particularly in the weeks preceding the Glasgow game. "It's going to be very important for us in terms of what we put into place for next season. "It's a big game for them. If they could get a home draw, that would be massive for them in the Magners League. "Having said that I know we're down the bottom of the league, but I firmly don't think we're a bottom-end team and I think we've got to go and show that on Friday." When the dust settles on that last game of their season, Davies says the Scarlets will set about ensuring they perform at a higher level next season. | 606: DEBATE |
"We've blooded a lot of young players over the last 18 months and that has started to pay dividends for us. "I'm sure next season these players are going to be that much more experienced, that much more streetwise "We've had some highs - there's no doubt about that. I think our European campaign was generally positive and we've run a lot of the top teams in the Magners very close. "But ultimately it is disappointing and we're quite clear where we've gone wrong and here'll be a big emphasis on that in the off season."
