Dragons outline recruitment plans for next season

Danny Lee
Turner's comments will raise question marks about Danny Lee's future

Dragons coach Paul Turner has outlined plans to build on this season's success with summer squad strengthening.

"We're looking at the nine position and 15 to back up Martyn Thomas with Jason Tovey having moved to 10," said Turner.

"There's probably another lock to come in and maybe a seven, then we're up and running for next season."

The Rodney Parade side are close to securing Heineken Cup qualification for next season ahead of Sunday's Magners League visit of Edinburgh to Newport.

The Dragons have quality options in the positions Turner has outlined, but there is a need for more strength in depth in the squad.

606: DEBATE

Thomas is first-choice full-back at Rodney Parade, while open-side flanker Gavin Thomas - who has just signed a new deal at Rodney Parade - has had a hugely impressive season that has seen him touted for a Wales recall.

Luke Charteris, Adam Jones, Robert Sidoli and Hoani MacDonald have been contesting the lock position for the region.

Scrum-half Wayne Evans is another to have enjoyed an outstanding season at Rodney Parade.

But Turner's search for a nine will raise question marks about the future of former New Zealand Test half-back Danny Lee.

The veteran has been plagued by injury since his arrival in Wales on a two-year deal last summer.
