James Arlidge races away following his first-half interception to score |
Newport Gwent Dragons boss Paul Turner hailed his side's try-scoring skills as they celebrated Friday's bonus point Magners League win over Glasgow. But Turner says his side must also learn to play 'intelligent' The former Wales fly-half said: "Some of the tries we scored were right out of the top drawer and we're playing some good rugby at the moment. "I think we've just got to mix it up with some intelligent play now and again." Even as his side were setting the foundations of victory to underline their encouraging start to the season, Turner admits he feared Glasgow would steal victory. He said: "It was one of those nights where you are always fearing that their 10 [Dan Parks] would probably win the game in the end. | 606: DEBATE |
"But we battled - we battled to come to terms with the breakdown, which was a problem in the first-half." The visitors gifted the Dragons' fly-half James Arlidge an early interception try and they followed up with touchdowns from James Tovey, Aled Brew and skipper Ashley Smith. Glasgow wing Colin Shaw scored the visitors' only try in the first-half and Dan Parks kicked the rest of their points. Turner added: "It was patchy actually. We scored some great tries, but I don't think the ref [Englishman Dudley Phillips] came to terms with the scrum for all of the game. "It was difficult and Glasgow will have been pretty disappointed with their scrum and we were as well. "Our defending was very good and a 5-0 win for us - you'd have taken that in the morning. "After the third one [try] you're pretty greedy and you say 'we've got to definitely get a bonus point now'. "But experience tells you you've got to win the game first. And it was a good performance." He went on: "There only looked one winner at the end of the game, really."
