Wales prop Duncan Jones has won 52 international caps |
Ospreys and Wales prop Duncan Jones is expected to miss the rest of the season after an operation on his foot problem. He will be in plaster for up to 12 weeks and is rated as "highly unlikely" to play again in 2008/9, scuppering the loose-head's Lions tour hopes. The 52-cap 30-year-old was an unused replacement for Wales' first autumn Test against South Africa, but the foot stress fracture then kept him out. His injury contributes to an ever-growing casualty list at the Ospreys. Paul James covers Jones' Ospreys place, while Wales have quality strength in depth there with the likes of Gethin Jenkins, John Yapp, Iestyn Thomas and Adam Black. | 606: DEBATE | But the injury follows that of Wales and Ospreys lock Ian Evans, who will miss the rest of the season after suffering a knee ligament injury in last week's defeat to New Zealand. Fellow Osprey Andy Lloyd (elbow ligaments) is out until April, Gareth Owen (ankle ligament) until January, while Ben Lewis has encountered further difficulties with his right knee following an operation and his recovery prognosis is uncertain. Huw Bennett (ankle), Mike Phillips (knee), Jamie Nutbrown (biceps) and Jonathan Spratt (back disc) should be back for the Liberty Stadium region over Christmas. Gavin Henson hopes to return from his Achilles problem sooner, though, the centre expecting to be back in training before the 13 December Heineken Cup game with Benetton Treviso.
