Lee Byrne celebrates scoring his first try |
Double-try scorer Lee Byrne described Wales' second-half performance in the 47-8 win over Italy as "outstanding". Full-back Byrne scored the first and fourth of Wales' five tries but played down his own performance. "I think we wore the Italians down, they looked tired in the end and that's all due respect to our fitness," he said. "We played well as a team and in the second half I thought we were outstanding." Byrne's Ospreys teammate Shane Williams also got two tries along with another from Blues Tom Shanklin, who was celebrating his 50th Wales cap. "Our game plan was to keep the ball on the park and it paid off," said Byrne. | 606: DEBATE |
"We knew it was going to be tough, but we knew if we were going to stick in there for the first 40 minutes, we knew the second half was always going to be ours. "My first try was a great pass from Gav (Henson) and I just dived over the line. "The second one, I was pretty happy with the hand-off and poor tackling from them but I went over from them and was happy with that. "I think the result is more important than my own personal performance really."
