Ian Gough says Wales will remain disciplined against Italy

Lock Ian Gough says Wales will not be dragged into Italy's style of play during Saturday's Six Nations clash.

The Azzurri have been accused of illegal tactics in the contact area and flanker Mauro Bergamasco has been picked out as one of the main culprits.

But Gough said: "I'm sure the referees are aware of some temperamental capabilities that he produces in games.

"If someone puts a cheap shot on, then punching them back and things like that is something we don't do."

Two years ago Italy won their first ever away points in the championship with an 18-18 draw in Cardiff, while last season in the Stadio Flaminio they staged a fine comeback to down Wales 23-20.

Although the Azzurri are winless this campaign, they have run both Ireland and England close.

"They have put in two very good performances so far," said Gough. "They are never out of the game.

"They have got a way of getting a lot of possession and territory in games.

"We've seen the videos and we just approach this as any other.

"We'll go toe-to-toe with every team and we'll always be on the front-foot. We're not backing down on anybody.

"But if we try and sort things out ourselves then that means us being undisciplined and us being in the bin with 14 men with the advantage to the Italians, which we can't give them.

"The referees and touch judges are very quick to everything."
