Gavin Henson travelled to Borders with the Ospreys but did not play |
Gavin Henson will be fit for selection during Wales' forthcoming tour to Australia, despite sitting out the Ospreys' Magners League title decider. The utility back was meant to play in Saturday's win at Border Reivers.
The 25-year-old did make it onto the Netherdale pitch, but only to join in his team-mates' pre-match warm-up.
Ospreys coach Lyn Jones said: "Gavin is looking forward to the tour, he just needed an extra week off. He'll be fit for selection in Australia."
Henson has not played since a knee injury flared up again in January and Jones admitted: "Everybody would have been happier if Gavin had played a few games before he went on tour."
Wales coach Gareth Jenkins has left 16 senior players behind in Wales for a summer conditioning camp, but is backing Henson to reclaim the form that he showed in Wales' 2005 Grand Slam year.
"It's unfortunate that we didn't get a chance to see Gavin in action at the weekend," Jenkins said.
"But we are confident he is fit and will be available to us and his issue at the weekend was more of a conditioning one.
"His task now is to get himself 100% right in the time available and show us in training that he is back up to his own high standards."
Wales meet the Wallabies in Sydney on 26 May and again on 2 June in Brisbane.
