Jones has had an outstanding season for Wales and the Ospreys |
New Wales captain Duncan Jones has won the Welsh Rugby Writers' Association's player of the season award. Nine players were nominated, with the Ospreys prop polling twice as many votes as nearest rival Dwayne Peel.
Neath and Ospreys fly-half prodigy James Hook beat 11 other nominees to be crowned Wales' most promising player.
There were 19 nominations for Wales' most overlooked player, Dragons flanker Jason Forster pipping Scarlets number eight Alix Popham by two votes.
Loose-head Jones, 27, has had an outstanding season with club and country.
He has been an ever-present for Wales, only being rested for the Fiji Test last autumn.
The Neath man has also been the leading light for the Ospreys in a troubled season, helping turn around their form after taking the captaincy half-way through the season following Barry Williams' injury.
New Wales coach Gareth Jenkins last week turned to Jones to lead Wales' summer tour to Argentina.
Last season's skippers Gareth Thomas and Michael Owen are missing from the tour party along with a number of other senior players, but Jones will be in Jenkins' plans when he chooses his captain to lead Wales to next year's World Cup.
