Jones ready to step up for Wales
Duncan Jones has won 27 Wales caps
Jones has been an ever-present for Wales this season
Loose-head prop Duncan Jones says he is honoured to take the Wales captaincy for the summer tour to Argentina.

"It's great, something I'll really enjoy," said Jones, who only took the Ospreys captaincy halfway through the season after Barry Williams' injury.

"It's hard to say what my captaincy style is, the most important thing is to have a happy side ready to play.

"I have experienced players around me and will look to be a ear to the younger members of the squad."

Neath-man Jones, 27, has won 27 caps since making his debut in 2001 and has been an ever-present for Wales this season, only being rested for the Fiji game.

That has meant ousting Lions Test prop Gethin Jenkins from a position where Wales are blessed with real strength-in-depth.

I've got too much going on to think about whether I'll be captain next season

After an outstanding run of form this year, the new skipper acknowledges that he will need to stay at the top of his game just to hold his position - and to meet the formidable forward challenge from Argentina.

"There's so much competition for my place, that's my first worry," Jones told BBC Sport Wales.

"Then there's the Pumas who pride themselves on their forward pack - although they now have the back line to complement that frontal approach.

"I'm sure we have the squad to meet the challenge, though. It may be youthful [with an average age of 24] but everyone's here on merit.

"I've got too much going on to think about whether I'll be captain next season. Gareth Thomas and Michael Owen have done tremendous jobs for Wales and they'll be back."

Joining Jones on tour will be four uncapped youngsters from his Ospreys region: fly-half James Hook, locks Ian Evans and Alun Wyn Jones, and hooker Richard Hibbard.

"They're all hard-working and willing to learn," said Jones.

"Above everything else, when they've been given their chance at the Ospreys it's been on merit and they've come in and added something to the squad.

"They will benefit from the early exposure to international level."

Dragons tight-head prop Rhys Thomas is the fifth uncapped member of the tour squad.
