Scarlets captain Simon Easterby has targeted Friday night's Celtic Cup quarter-final at the Dragons as a chance to rescue a poor season.

"It's an opportunity for us to put some wrongs right," Easterby said.

Academy fly-half Ceiron Thomas gets his first start in a Scarlets jersey, alongside Wales scrum-half Dwayne Peel.

The Dragons have an unchanged back line, but Adam Black, Rhys Thomas and Rhys Oakley come into a reshuffled pack, with nine replacements named.

Newport's been a big part of my life, I'm just happy to have been here and accomplished so much

Scrum-half Gareth Cooper is a doubt for the Dragons but could still make the bench.

Nathan Brew, Hal Luscombe and Steve Winn are all definitely out, while Jamie Ringer is suspended.

Flanker Ringer is serving a four-week ban after being found guilty of a head-butt during the Dragons' last match against Connacht.

The Dragons have just three available back-row players, skipper Jason Forster, Rhys Oakley and Michael Owen.

"This competition is our chance for silverware and to have a home draw in the cup is a massive plus," said Dragons lock Ian Gough.

"We are proud to play at Rodney Parade and we have got a good home record, which we want to keep."

Peel returns to the Scarlets starting line-up for the first time since being named in the British and Irish Lions squad for New Zealand.

With a number of niggles still plaguing selection, the replacements bench may be altered with a final decision expected on Friday.

"It's a chance to put a performance in, hopefully get a result out of it and, who knows, we could win some silverware at the end of the season," Easterby added.

"I'm expecting a fiery encounter in Newport, they haven't hit their straps either this season so it'll be a battle between two sides who want to get something out of the end of the season."
