Ex-All Blacks wing Jonah Lomu arrived in Wales on Friday to begin his seven-month stay with Cardiff Blues. Lomu, 30, has recovered from serious kidney problems and is looking forward to playing professional rugby again.
"I am very excited to be here in Wales and look forward to putting on the Cardiff Blues shirt," Lomu said.
"It's been a long road back to health and fitness for me. I am just glad to have been given the opportunity to do what I love most."
Since starring at the 1995 World Cup, Lomu's career has been blighted by a kidney problem - nephritic syndrome - that saw him undergo a transplant last year.
His recovery from that was delayed by a serious shoulder injury last June, suffered while playing in a testimonial match for former England skipper Martin Johnson.
Lomu is one of rugby's great players, but insisted he would be taking nothing for granted with his new team as he chases his ultimate goal of returning to the New Zealand national side.
"For me, I want to get into training and make the squad," Lomu added.
"There's always the challenge of making the 22 and my focus is on that and getting regular game time.
"I'm also really keen to be part of a team again and contribute to some great results for the Cardiff Blues."
Lomu could get his first outing for the Blues in the Powergen Cup match at London Irish on 4 December.
