Francisco Leonelli Morey and Simon Webster were Edinburgh's saviours as they left it late to see off Newport-Gwent Dragons at Murrayfield. With time running out the Scots looked destined to pay dearly for firing blanks in attack.
But Leonelli and Webster snapped up late tries, with Chris Paterson's conversions completing the salvage act.
Tries from Hal Luscombe and Craig Warlow set the Dragons on their way but they had to settle for a bonus point.
After a generally scrappy and disjointed opening, Edinburgh scrum-half Mikey Blair sparked the first real opportunity with a blindside break to release Leonelli.
The exciting new recruit from Argentina shrugged off two challenges before ducking infield to feed Paterson, only for the wing to run out of support.
Paterson and Warlow exchanged penalties, before the Gunners wasted two golden try opportunities.
Leonelli burst away but could not deliver the scoring pass to Webster - on for the injured Rob Dewey- then Hugo Southwell made a complete hash of his attempt to send Paterson to the try-line.
It took until the 64th minute for a try to arrive and it was the visitors who struck.
Lock Luke Charteris inflicted the initial damage, before Gareth Wyatt sent bustling centre Hal Luscombe in at the corner flag.
But then Leonelli began and finished the move for his try, which also starred Southwell twice, and Paterson banged over the vital conversion.
Webster darted over for another try in the dying seconds, also goaled by Paterson.
The Dragons still battled to the end and Warlow's last-gasp score and conversion earned them a consolation bonus point.
Dragons coach Paul Turner:
"From 3-3 at half-time we really felt we could have won that game. "It was a vast improvement from last week, but we spilt too many balls and dropped off tackles."
