Wales and Dragons three-quarter Haldane Luscombe will miss the start of the Heineken Cup and the autumn Tests. The in-form 24-year-old suffered a broken thumb and ligament damage in Friday's 17-15 loss at Edinburgh.
The injuries will rule him out for between four and eight weeks, adding to Wales' midfield crisis.
Dragons prop Adam Black missed the Edinburgh game with a knee injury, joining David Maddocks (elbow) on the sidelines to leave a front-row problem.
With Steve Jones and Kieran Crawford carrying knocks, Newport RFC hooker Andrew Brown started in Edinburgh alongside Cross Keys prop Ian George. The inexperience will trouble coach Paul Turner as he prepares his side for next Saturday's Heineken Cup opener in Castres.
