Jones escapes ban for dismissal
Ryan Jones
Ospreys number eight Ryan Jones has escaped a ban following his red card against Celtic League rivals Munster.

A Welsh Rugby Union disciplinary hearing ruled on Tuesday that the sending-off was sufficient punishment.

Jones, a Welsh international, was dismissed on Saturday for stamping on Munster's Donncha O'Callaghan.

Jones had expected to miss the start of the Six Nations in February and has been told to keep his discipline by Wales coach Mike Ruddock.

"Hopefully the boy will learn that poor discipline could count against him in future selections," Ruddock said.

"I spoke to Ryan and told him we weren't particularly happy with the fact that he'd been sent off, the Ospreys weren't happy and he wasn't happy himself.

"He's a young kid, he's got a big future in front of him and I'm sure he'll learn from it."

The disciplinary panel was chaired by Geraint Edwards and consisted of WRU board members Russell Howell, Ray Wilton, Mal Beynon and Brian Fowler and disciplinary sub-committee member John Owen.

Meanwhile, the Ospreys are considering citing Munster scrum-half Peter Stringer for what they claim was an equally illegal boot on lock Andy Newman.

Ospreys are due to face Munster again on 8 January at Thomond Park, in a game that is likely to decide the winners of Heineken Cup Pool Four.
