Cardiff Blues are interested in signing scrum-half Mike Phillips from rival Welsh region Llanelli Scarlets. Phillips, 22, has won three caps but has found his first-team opportunities at Stradey Park limited by fellow Wales international Dwayne Peel.
The 6ft 3in player is out of contract in the summer and would be able to move to the Arms Park as a free agent.
"We want him to stay, but we won't pressurise him," Scarlets chief Stuart Gallacher told the South Wales Echo.
"I am aware of interest from the Blues, but it is going to be Mike's decision - he must decide what he wants to do."
Blues coach Dai Young has been forced to use wing Dean Dewdney as a makeshift scrum-half this season, following an injury to regular number nine Ryan Powell.
The arrival at the Arms Park of former Wales skipper and Lions scrum-half Rob Howley, as part of a new Blues coaching set-up that includes Richard Webster, is another attraction for Phillips.
