Newport benefactor Tony Brown is poised to take control of the Dragons, despite hostility from Welsh Rugby Union group chief executive David Moffett. Paul Harding, the administrator of the financially troubled Gwent regional side, says he is happy with the proposed investment from Brown that would save the side from financial ruin.
Moffett had indicated that he did not want Newport to dominate the Dragons set-up, but the fiscal situation could mean that the Union will have no choice in the matter.
"I believe we have met all the WRU's requirements regarding rugby and we are just waiting for the go-ahead from them," Harding told BBC Sport Wales.
"The investment from Tony Brown is settled and the money is in, that is positive to take the team forward. We hope to get this settled as soon as possible.
"The name is not an issue for us. The team is the Newport Gwent Dragons and it is known as the Dragons.
"Gwent regional rugby works under the Dragons name and plays its games out of Rodney Parade."
Despite the problems off the field, the side continues to excel on it, Sunday's 28-19 win over Connacht preserving their 100% home record and taking them to second spot in the Celtic League. "The side needs all the help it can get and this sort of performance was very encouraging for everybody," said Harding after the game.
"The crowd of 3,000 was disappointing, but there must be an element of the people being 'rugby'd-out' after the World Cup.
"It was good to have the hard-core support continuing to turn out, though."
