Robinson is under contract to Scotland until 2012
Andy Robinson has attempted to dampen speculation linking the Scotland coach with a return to his former club, Bath. Multi-millionaire Bruce Craig, who attended Loughborough University with Robinson, now owns the English club. "There's obviously been some speculation around myself, but I've got a contract to 2012," said Robinson. "There's a long time until that is up. If there's an announcement to be made, it will be made. Currently, there's nothing to say." Robinson, who has led Scotland to five wins in their last six Tests, made 249 appearances in 13 seasons with Bath and led them to victory in the Heineken Cup final as coach in 1998. He is under contract to the Scottish Rugby Union until after the 2012 Six Nations Championship and insists he is concentrating on the job in hand with Scotland. "I'm an ex-player, I still live in Bath," he said when asked about links to the club where Scotsman Ian McGeechan is performance director. "I'm an ex-coach of the club. | I'm contracted to Scotland and that's what my focus is on Scotland coach Andy Robinson |
"I have huge respect for the club and what it's about. Ian McGeechan, I've a lot of respect for him as a person and a coach. "Andrew Brownsword laid the foundations for professional rugby and gave the club real stability, which can be expected to be taken on to another level by Bruce and his involvement. "Obviously people know the connections with Bruce and myself at university, but I'm contracted to Scotland and that's what my focus is on." Robinson is unsure what the future holds beyond his current contract with the SRU. "If you look back to 2004, 2005, who would have predicted that I'd be coaching Scotland?" said the former England coach. "Who would have said I would have come to Edinburgh and did what I did? "You don't know. It's a professional game and I have tremendous support from my family. "Without that, I wouldn't be able to be the Scotland head coach." Robinson on Wednesday named his training squad for the Six Nations, which begins for Scotland against France in Paris on 5 February. The 34-man pool includes uncapped trio Jon Welsh, Robert Harley and Jack Cuthbert. British Lions prop Euan Murray is also included following a difficult period. Murray was Scotland's tight-head during the autumn Tests but was released by Northampton Saints last month before joining Newcastle Falcons. A factor in Saints' decision to allow Murray to move on was his refusal to play on Sundays for religious reasons. This is something Robinson respects and, although Scotland play both Ireland and England on Sundays, on 27 February and 13 March respectively, it will not influence the coach's thinking when it comes to the other games. "Euan's not available for those two games," said Robinson, who stressed that Murray would be considered against France. "We knew that at the beginning of the year. "I started him in the autumn and I thought he did pretty well and I'll be looking at him potentially starting in this game."
