Walker fit to join Scots' squad

Nikki Walker receives treatment
Walker suffered a cut under his eye against Glasgow on Friday

Ospreys winger Nikki Walker will join up with the Scotland squad on Monday despite an injury scare during his side's 9-9 draw with Glasgow Warriors.

Walker had to be replaced after 38 minutes on Friday after requiring oxygen to revive him following a clash of heads with Filo Tiatia.

But, although he required stitches to a wound under his eye, Walker is expected to join up with his national squad.

Andy Robinson's side face Fiji at Murrayfield on 14 November.

Glasgow's Chris Cusiter admitted that the scrappy match had done little to boost his own chances of beating Mike Blair to a starting place at scrum half in the first of Scotland's autumn series of internationals.

"I had a good start to the year and then I missed a couple of games through illness and injury," he told BBC Sport.

To come down here and get two points out of it in the end is not a bad result

"I am happy enough with my form. I could have maybe preferred to have shown a bit more, but we will see what happens next week."

Cusiter knows that Robinson is expected to adopt a "horses for courses" selection policy, with a tighter formation likely to be used against the expansive Fijians.

"Mike Blair and I have different kinds of games," said Cusiter.

"Depending on the team we are playing, they might select on that kind of basis.

"But, as Mike will tell you, we don't think too much about that and just concentrate on doing our best for our clubs."

Cusiter did not see it as a missed opportunity against an Ospreys side denied several Welsh internationals because of their test against New Zealand next Saturday.

"You have to play for the conditions on nights like that, you just have to play for territory on a night like that," he said after the match played in heavy rain.

"But to come down here and get two points out of it in the end is not a bad result and we could have sneaked it at the end."

Warriors coach Sean Lineen was pleased to take two points from a game he said was played in terrible conditions but which puts his side level at the top of the Magners League.

He said that the early withdrawals of Cusiter, Ally Kellock and Johnnie Beattie had nothing to do with their involvement with Scotland, the first two having been affected this week by illness.

"I think Richie Vernon did very well when he came on, I thought Kelly Brown was outstanding for the whole game and big Richie Gray had another game under his belt for a young lad and our scrum was outstanding and was well on top," added Lineen.
