We had gone into the Six Nations opener against France hoping to serve notice that Scotland were a force to be reckoned with.
But now we have to go to Wales and win to put our title hopes back on track.
Obviously, we are really disappointed with the performance and final result at Murrayfield on Sunday.
We got ourselves in great shape for the World Cup and, following that, we had trained well together and there was a real cohesion about the squad.
Cusiter came close to scoring a try against France |
Our boys have been playing well for the pro teams in Scotland, England, France and elsewhere.
And we therefore went into the opening game full of confidence and felt we had an ideal chance of making a winning start to the Six Nations campaign against a new-look French team.
But we did not play well enough and were well beaten in the end, as the 27-6 scoreline suggests.
We just made a few too many mistakes, let them off the hook at times when we needed to keep the pressure on and did not ask enough questions of their new players.
That allowed them to relax a bit and they scored a couple of good tries, even if they did carry a bit of luck as well.
From then on, we were chasing the game a bit.

We had a long debrief immediately after the game, but there were no coffee cups thrown by our coach, Frank Hadden.
It was more quiet reflection and honest appraisal of what had happened.
We had a talk among ourselves and with the coaches and we know that the level of performance against France was not acceptable.
When you are sitting on the bench, as I was, it's painful to see the team playing badly, as everyone in our squad wants everyone else to do well.
It's a squad game these days and benches have become more important.
Those of us on the bench feel we have a role to play and you just hope to make the kind of impact the coaches are looking for once you are given the chance.
 | We will look to make a couple of adjustments, do the basics better and come up with a big performance |
I played for 15 minutes against France and hopefully will get a bit more game time on Saturday as I feel I am in really good form - but so is Mike Blair.
I know the French players well from playing for Perpignan this season. And, although there were a few new guys in their team, around them they had proven class players who have been playing well in the Top 14, so it wasn't a weak team.
They managed to bring it all together and play some good rugby, so you have to give them credit for that.
It's very difficult to tell after the first weekend what it means for their title chances as the Six Nations is never easy to predict, but it will certainly give them confidence for the rest of the tournament.
As for ourselves, we know we can't make that number of mistakes and suffer that many turnovers and win a game.
But, as we prepare for Friday's journey south, we can't go completely back to the drawing board because of one bad performance.
We will look to make a couple of adjustments, do the basics better and come up with a big performance.
It's a short turnaround to be playing on Saturday after Sunday, but we have got to regroup as the tournament is still wide open.
Yes, we will go into the game as underdogs against a Welsh team on a high after their win over England.
But I don't think everything went wrong. We have to retain our confidence and show what we are capable of in Wales.
