Border Reivers hooker Ross Ford has been suspended by the club until an independent disciplinary committee meets to determine a citing. It was lodged against him following last weekend's Heineken Cup match against Northampton Saints at Franklin's Gardens.
Ford was cited by commissioner Denis Templeton for an alleged punching offence during the game.
The Scottish Rugby Union confirmed Ford had been suspended by his club.
In a statement, the SRU said: "Border Reivers head coach Steve Bates confirmed the club had received notice of the citing and that they were taking their own action by suspending the player until the hearing is convened."
