The Scottish Rugby Union has announced that the director of rugby position will not be part of its new structure. New chief executive Gordon McKie said: "The role as currently defined is huge and embraces every conceivable facet.
"It would be more sensible to reorganise some of the constituent parts to enable sharing of best practice across all our interests.
"This gives greater responsibility to those managing specific areas and puts greater emphasis on communication."
However, Richie Dixon has been asked to continue as interim director of rugby to help in the transitional process.
Dixon has been doing the job since former incumbent Ian McGeechan quit to join Wasps in April.
