Wales team for Italy
Gareth Cooper scores a try against Tonga
Gareth Cooper is dropped despite scoring a try against Tonga
After chopping and changing his starting XV, Wales coach Steve Hansen has picked what he thinks is his strongest side for the crunch Pool D encounter with Italy.

Let us know if you agree with Hansen and if not who you would have picked, and use our squad selector to send your strongest XV to your friends.

Wales team to face Italy

Full-back - Kevin Morgan (Warriors)

Morgan has had little rugby to find his form, but Rhys Williams' defensive errors against the Tongans were glaring.

Right wing - Mark Jones (Scarlets)

The Scarlets wing has added some much-needed muscle to his undoubted pace and knows his way to the try line.

Outside centre - Sonny Parker (Warriors)

Sonny Parker
Sonny Parker has recovered from his back strain
The New Zealand-born centre has recovered from his back injury and gets the nod ahead of Mark Taylor and Tom Shanklin.

Inside centre - Iestyn Harris (Blues)

Hansen was not convinced that the former rugby league man should fill the 12 jersey before the tournament began, but Harris has done enough to secure his place and role as first-choice goal-kicker.

Left wing - Gareth Thomas (Warriors)

Thomas' distinctive try celebrations have caught the eye in Australia and his all-round ability make him a certain starter.

Fly-half - Ceri Sweeney (Warriors)

Stephen Jones had a shocker against Tonga and Sweeney's burgeoning partnership with Harris gets him the vote.

Scrum-half - Dwayne Peel (Scarlets)

Hansen's big surprise selection as Gareth Cooper had seemed to be the man in possession. Although Peel offers less around the rucks and mauls, his speed and timing of the pass is superior.

Loosehead prop - Duncan Jones (Ospreys)

HAVE YOUR SAY
Iestyn Thomas has always been Hansen's first choice, but his recent Welsh performances have been less than impressive and his scrummaging was exposed by the Tongans.

Hooker - Robin McBryde (Scarlets)

Mefin Davies gave a fine performance against Tonga, but Hansen's first-choice hooker is still McBryde.

Tighthead prop - Adam Jones (Ospreys)

Has fought and worked for his chance to start and forms and all-Ospreys prop combination with Duncan Jones. However, any drop in performance and Gethin Jenkins will be off the bench in a flash.

Lock - Brent Cockbain (Warriors)

The Australian-born lock impressed against Canada and adds the extra bulk and height to help combat a very abrasive Italian pack.

Lock - Gareth Llewellyn (Ospreys)

Colin Charvis
Wales will look for a big game from their captain Colin Charvis
Llewellyn is a Hansen favourite and provides leadership and a cool head in tight situations, but expect Robert Sidoli to replace the veteran early in the second half.

Blindside flanker - Dafydd Jones (Scarlets)

The young Scarlets back-row man will alternate between blindside and number eight with Charvis.

Number eight - Colin Charvis (unattached, capt)

Wales will look to their captain for a big game after disappointing against Tonga.

Openside flanker - Martyn Williams (Blues)

Mr Consistency for Wales - although he may be told to lay off the drop-goals!

Replacements: Mefin Davies (Warriors), Gethin Jenkins (Warriors), Robert Sidoli (Warriors), Jon Thomas (Ospreys), Gareth Cooper (Warriors), Stephen Jones (Scarlets), Rhys Williams (Blues).
