Wales coach Steve Hansen has sprung a major surprise at half-back for Saturday's Pool D showdown with Italy in Canberra. Fly-half Ceri Sweeney and scrum-half Dwayne Peel will both start a match that will decide who advances to the quarter-finals.
Many suspected that Hansen would play cautious and start with the reliable kicking of Stephen Jones at fly-half, but both he and Gareth Cooper are relegated to the bench.
"We feel they are appropriate changes to what we're going to be trying to do in the early part of them game," said Hansen.
"It's no relection on the other two boys really."
Cooper did score a try in the lacklustre 27-20 win over Tonga last Sunday, while Jones missed four of his nine kicks at goal.
The Scarlets number 10 and Cooper flew out to Australia as the first-choice half-back pairing, but seems to have paid the price for poor displays.
But they are not alone, with Hansen fielding an entirely new front row of Ospreys props Duncan Jones and Adam Jones packing down either side of Robin McBryde.
Hooker Mefin Davies and prop Gethin Jenkins have been moved to the bench, and there is no room in the 22 for Scarlets prop Iestyn Thomas.
The back row has no surprises, however, with Martyn Williams at openside flanker alongside Dafydd Jones and skipper Colin Charvis at number eight.
Gareth Llewellyn and Australian-born Brent Cockbain are named as the first-choice locks, with Robert Sidoli, whose father is Italian, providing cover on the bench.
Sonny Parker is fit again to resume his centre partnership with Iestyn Harris, while Mark Jones and Gareth Thomas claim the wing berths.
Rhys Williams pays the price for his blunder that gifted Tonga a try, with Kevin Morgan reclaiming the full-back spot.
Scrum-half Alessandro Troncon will lead out Italy on Saturday after shaking off injury problems, while centre Andrea Masi has also recovered from his hip problem and is fit to start.
However, the Azzurri have been rocked by serious injuries to wing Mirco Bergamasco and lock Marco Bortolami.
Bergamasco broke a cheekbone against Canada, while Bortolami suffered a dislocated clavicle in the same game and both are likely to miss the rest of Italy's World Cup campaign.
