Wales win delights Charvis
Colin Charvis scores Wales' fourth try against Canada
Wales skipper Colin Charvis was delighted with his side's start in the World Cup after seeing off Group D rivals Canada 41-10.

The skipper found himself in the sin-bin after just eight minutes for a late challenge on Canada full-back James Pritchard when trying to charge down a kick.

"There is no arguing with the yellow card, the letter of the law is that I was to be yellow-carded," Charvis said.

"I know myself that there was no malice intended and fortunately there was no injury, their number 10 carried on with no problem.

"We still won the game, which was important for us. When we were back to full strength we started to put some points on the board."

Fourteen-man Wales scored their opening try, through centre Sonny Parker, before Charvis returned to the action and Wales never looked back.

Our game plan fell apart

"We're just very glad to have got the victory and now we can get on with the rest of the tournament with a lot of confidence," Charvis added.

"I think the guys have been very eager over the last few weeks to get into the tournament and start playing."

Charvis claimed a try of his own, crashing over from close range to claim the all-important fourth try for Wales and earning a bonus point.

"We didn't intend to go for the bonus point," Charvis said. "We knew that Canada were going to be very tough and we just wanted to win.

"The game plan was well-structured to enable us to try and get the points on the board early doors.

"We just wanted to get our noses in front and see whether we could beat them, then maybe go for the bonus point later on."

Wales scored five tries in all, the others coming from Gareth Cooper, Mark Jones and Gareth Thomas, but the star of the show was Iestyn Harris.

The Wales centre orchestrated his backline brilliantly, made some telling breaks himself and produced an immaculate kicking display to finish with 16 points from seven out of seven kicks.
