Charron was playing in a Test for the first time in almost a year

Canada captain Al Charron has conceded that his team will have to go back to the drawing board if they are to make a World Cup impact.

The Cannucks were completely outplayed by Wales in Melbourne, going down 41-10.

Having taken an early 3-0 lead Canada had to wait until the 71st minute for their next score, a try from prop Kevin Tkachuk.

It was little consolation for a disappointing performance and Charron knows his team will have their work cut out in their second match against New Zealand.

"Wales were the better team today and deserved to win," the veteran skipper said.

"More points at the start would have given us a real boost but our game plan fell apart.

"We have to regroup and get ready for the games that follow. We'll go back to the drawing board and get things sorted out."

Coach Dave Clark echoed Charron's sentiments.

"We had a hard day. We lost our structure too easily," Clark said.

"We looked good, we were ahead by three points and chasing well and then we lost it."
