Nathan Hines was not in the Scotland side to face Japan

Hines' parents, Pat and Avon, Hines' wife Leann, her mother, Anne Whiteside, and his grandmother, Mary Kelly, were released after treatment in hospital in Townsville early Monday.

The lock, who was not in the team for Sunday's match, said his family was in hospital for five hours following the crash on the way home from the stadium on Sunday.

"All of them were in neck braces for a while, except my mum," said Hines.

"I'm just glad that none of them were seriously hurt.

"When I heard they'd been in an accident and the car was a wreck, well, you could imagine how I felt."

Their rented van was stationary at traffic lights when it was struck from behind by another vehicle.

Police, fire and ambulance crews were at the scene and the family was taken to hospital.

Hines' family rested at the team hotel in Townsville before flying back to Brisbane later on Monday.

Scotland's team base is at Caloundra, north of Brisbane.
