Romania's Socol is dejected after defeat to Argentina |
Romania coach Bernard Charreyre was disappointed to join Canada as the second team to crash out of the World Cup despite being drawn in a difficult group with world champions Australia.Charreyre's side lost 50-3 to Argentina following a 45-17 loss to Ireland and a massive 90-8 defeat to the hosts.
Romania were overpowered by seven-tries-to-nil at the hands of an error-strewn second-string Puma outfit in Sydney.
But Charreyre insisted they had nurtured high hopes of showing signs of improvement.
"When we arrived in Australia we knew we were in the most difficult pool and it was going to be hard for us but we're still disappointed," said Charreyre.
Argentina led 24-0 at the break and ran in three more tries in a more fluent second-half effort to consign Romania to their third straight defeat.
Romania manager Florin Campeanu admitted it would be difficult for his side to stay in contention at international level.
"Our goal is just to stay involved in the sport and stay close to the second division but today's game showed us that that is going to take a lot of work," said Campeanu.
Romania play Namibia in Launceston, Tasmania, on 30 October to decide who finishes bottom of the pool.
