Mitchell has yet to comment on his future

Mitchell, whose contract with the All Blacks ended with the third-place play-off win over France, has been asked to re-apply for the post.

But on Monday, French television network TV3 said an unnamed French side had offered him �350,000 to lead them in France's top flight next season.

Mitchell, a former All Black, has so far made no comment on his future.

Henry eyes All Blacks role

Should he re-apply for his role at the helm of the All Blacks, he faces competition from ex-Wales boss Graham Henry among others.

England boss Clive Woodward was quick to back Mitchell to stay on in the role, having employed him in the past as his assistant coach.

Woodward said: "I'm surprised he is having to re-apply for the job and in my opinion he is being harshly treated.

"They have had an outstanding year and only lost one match and that was to Australia in a World Cup semi-final.

"He is a fantastic coach and a great guy."
