Betsen scored a try against England before being sin-binned |
France flanker Serge Betsen is to appeal against his six-week ban for kicking scrum-half Matt Dawson in the head during England's 24-7 World Cup semi-final win.
French officials said on Friday the appeal would be heard within 48 hours.
Betsen's action was not considered deliberate but the player accepted it was reckless.
He was not punished for the kicking incident during Saturday's match but he was cited.
He was also sin-binned later in the game for a late tackle on Jonny Wilkinson.
France team manager Jo Maso said the incident took place as the players were pinned on the ground at the bottom of a ruck and Betsen was only trying to wriggle free.
