Bernard Laporte is set to continue as France coach despite the 24-7 defeat to England in the Rugby World Cup semi-finals. French rugby supremo Bernard Lapasset is backing Laporte to remain in charge but says his future will be discussed at a meeting with former internationals in December.
"I hope to continue with Bernard Laporte," said Lapasset. "There is no reason for him not to have our confidence.
"He has certainly brought a new dimension to the job. However we are not going to build towards the 2007 World Cup in the same way.
"We have lost to England. It is important to stand back and reflect on what has happened and discuss how to be at our best for the next World Cup."
Laporte took over from Jean-Claude Skrela and Pierre Villepreux in November 1999 following France's World Cup final defeat to Australia.
Since then, France have won 28 and lost 19 of their 48 games, winning the Six Nations Grand Slam in 2002.
