Mike Ruddock plotting Worcester Warriors signings

Ruddock is coming towards the end of his third season at Sixways

Worcester Warriors are looking to bring in at least six more players, but director of rugby Mike Ruddock admits it is a bit of a jigsaw.

Ruddock told BBC Hereford & Worcester: "A lot of it comes down to the budget and how much we spend on different players as we go along.

"It's like a jigsaw puzzle and as each piece slots into place it tells you how big or small the next bit can be."

Ruddock would not be drawn on who would be leaving Sixways.

It seems likely that All Black wing Rico Gear will be one of those to leave after a disappointing season.

If certain players that we've targeted end up turning us down, then obviously that might mean we can strengthen the numbers of our squad

With Chris Pennell and Marcel Garvey fit, and Miles Benjamin back from England Saxons duty, Gear could find himself out of the squad all together.

Ruddock said: "It all depends on one or two signings we are looking at the moment as to how much money we will have available to spend.

"I think it will be in the region of six or seven players coming into the squad next year.

"But, if certain players that we've targeted end up turning us down and we spend less money on those areas, then obviously that might mean we can strengthen the numbers of our squad with more experienced players across the board."
