Worcester Warriors director of rugby Mike Ruddock has signed a one-year extension to his contract.

Former Wales coach Ruddock, 50, who joined the Warriors in 2007 on a three-year contract, is now tied to Sixways until at least 2011.

"I'm delighted to sign this contract extension," said Ruddock.

"Warriors are a fantastic club with a brilliant chairman, an outstanding fan base and a dedicated group of professionals on the playing staff."

Ruddock led the Warriors to the European Challenge Cup final in his first season in charge.

And, although they flirted with relegation last season, Ruddock has helped the Warriors get off to a sound start this time round to stand in the top half of the table with two home wins from their first four Guinness Premiership games.

"Over the last two years we've been building a squad that we believe will be capable of making a bigger impact on the Guinness Premiership," said Ruddock.

"Our goal over the next two years is to keep improving as a team and strive, with the assistance of my talented backroom staff, to challenge for a place amongst Europe's elite."

Warriors chairman Cecil Duckworth is also pleased that the Welshman has extended his contract, especially because of his work in developing young players.

"He has mixed them with an exciting blend of experienced international stars," said Duckworth. "And this season we believe the team is showing its true potential as we compete in both domestic and European competitions.

"He can now continue his fantastic work at the club beyond this season."
