Mullan has been consistently impressive for Warriors this season |
Worcester Warriors young prop Matt Mullan says he was shocked to be named in the England Saxons squad. The 21-year-old has been a key figure during his first full season in the senior squad. Mullan, who is a product of the Worcester academy, says his selection by England Saxons coach Graham Rowntree has yet to sink in. "I was very surprised when I found out but it's really fantastic news," he told BBC Hereford & Worcester. "Graham Rowntree came to see Warriors before Christmas and watched a session with us. "After that our forwards coach Tony Windo pulled me to one side and told me that he thought they were looking to put me in but I didn't want to believe it because it wasn't official. "It has been a while waiting to see if it was going to happen and I only dared tell my dad that I might be in. "People have mentioned England to me before but I don't pay any attention to it. "This is my first real season playing regularly for Warriors so I have had to just concentrate on that and playing well to keep my place."
