Worcester Warriors boss Mike Ruddock is hoping for fewer injuries in 2009 |
With the pitch at Sixways frozen, Worcester Warriors have been able to enjoy almost full training sessions in their indoor 'shed'. The shed is half the size of a rugby pitch and director of rugby Mike Ruddock says it enables them to do most of the training they need. "It is a Godsend," said Ruddock, "although it does restrict us in our width and what we can do overall. "The lads are enjoying training. There's a good buzz in the camp." With Saturday's game against Sale frozen off it has given Worcester an extra week to get some of their injured players nearer full fitness. | We have very seldom been able to put out what we think is our number one combination Warriors coach Mike Ruddock |
Warriors have suffered a series of injuries this season. It started when skipper Pat Sanderson limped out of a pre-season game to miss the first nine games of the season. And only last week Sam Tuitupou was ruled out for the rest of the season. Ruddock told BBC Hereford and Worcester that it has been difficult to find consistency with changes in the backs every week. "We very seldom have been able to put out what we think is our number one combination," he said. "Having said that, without being able to put out the team we want, we have competed well, and have some good youngsters who have proved they deserve to be in the squad. "We go into 2009 hoping we will get a run without some of the more significant injuries." Warriors' next Guinness Premiership game is at Harlequins on Saturday 10 January (1500 GMT). There will be full commentary on BBC Hereford & Worcester.
