Ruddock gave some of his youngsters a chance at Cambridge |
Worcester Warriors need to take their pre-season form into their opening league games of the season according to director of rugby Mike Ruddock. Warriors rounded off their warm-up campaign when a young side won 39-18 at division two club Cambridge. Ruddock said the friendly results need to be converted into league points: "We haven't started well in recent years and put ourselves under pressure." Warriors start the season at newly promoted Northampton Saints on Sunday. Ruddock says he has a good idea of his starting line up: "We have a basic squad of 25 players, but there is always the chance for someone to put their hand up and get into the squad. "There is a steely determination among the players to get the right result at Northampton." Ruddock says he was happy with the way the team performed at Cambridge: "We ended up making lot of changes and blooded a few youngsters. "It took us a while to get the cohesion we wanted, but once we got it wide we were the better team." Samoan international Loki Crichton impressed as he set up three of the Warriors tries. Alex Grove gave Worcester the lead before Shaun Ruwers and Jordan Page also crossed for first-half tries. Charlie Fellows, Chris Pennell and Jake Abott underlined the Warriors supremacy. Worcester Warriors' game at Northampton will be featured in a rugby special on BBC Hereford & Worcester from 1305 BST on 104, 104.6 and 104.4 fm and on line at bbc.co.uk/herefordandworcester.
