Back-row forward Tom Wood has signed a two-year contract extension with Worcester Warriors.

The 21-year-old has made 17 first-team appearances for Warriors this season after breaking into the senior squad from the club's academy.

Director of rugby Mike Ruddock said: "He has made rapid strides and has the physical size to make an international back-row forward.

"He also has the determination to carry him to that goal."

He added: "With Drew Hickey leaving the club at the end of the season more weight will fall on Tom's broad shoulders, however we believe this will bring out the very best of him."

Wood, who started his career with Coventry side Barkers Butts, said: "I'm delighted to agree a new extension at Warriors, I have thoroughly enjoyed this season and being part of the first-team squad.

"I know there is more I can add to my game but I feel with the coaching team at Warriors I can continue to develop and improve even more next season as I look to have an even greater impact."
