Saracens swoop for Mordt and Parr

Saracens have signed former Harlequins centre Nils Mordt and Nottingham loose-head prop Matt Parr.

Mordt, 26, who has previously played for London Irish and Northampton, joins the Premiership runners-up following his release by Quins.

Former Sale and Leicester player Parr, 27, has impressed this season in the Championship with Nottingham.

"Petrus du Plessis moved to Saracens from Nottingham and did well," said Parr. "I hope to follow the same path."

Saracens director of rugby Brendan Venter added: "Matt has been highly recommended to us, not least by his front row team-mate Petrus. We are confident we have found another gem in the Championship.

"We are not a club that trawls the who's who of the world rugby. We look for players with talent and character and that's exactly what we have signed in Matt."

The arrival of Mordt and Parr is expected to complete Venter's squad for the 2010/11 season as Saracens bid to go one better than Saturday's last-gasp Guinness Premiership final defeat by Leicester.

And Mordt is delighted to be joining a team that he believes are getting stronger.

"It might have been said before but there is something special happening at Saracens," he said. "And I want to be part of it."

Venter added: "I have known Nils for some time. He has great hands and fantastic natural ability.

"He's also an outstanding character, and I'm sure he will thrive in our environment."
