Carstens has played eight times for South Africa |
Saracens have signed Springbok loose-head prop Deon Carstens. The 30-year-old has made more than 80 appearances for the Super 14 side Sharks and played for South Africa in the first Test against the Lions. Sarries director of rugby Brendan Venter said: "Sometimes things just work in your favour. "More than a world class loose-head, he is also an outgoing and infectious character - exactly the kind of person who will enhance our squad's spirit." Saracens' appointment of Carstens will soften the blow of losing out on Northampton prop Soane Tonga'huia who will stay at Saints next season despite agreeing in January to move to Vicarage Road. Carstens said: "Everybody in rugby can see there is something special happening at Saracens and I'm looking forward to being part of it."
