Van Heerden previously played for the Blue Bulls and the Cats

Saracens have agreed to a request by the Lions to release Wikus van Heerden from his deal with immediate effect.

The former South Africa international, 31, was initially set to leave the club at the end of the season.

He will now join the Johannesburg-based team early and will be eligible for the rest of the Super 14 tournament.

Saracens director of rugby Brendan Venter said: "Wikus has produced many outstanding performances for Saracens and we wish him and his family well."
