Sale Sharks allay James Gaskell injury concern

James Gaskell
Gaskell has captained the club in the opening two fixtures of the season

Sale Sharks have announced that club captain James Gaskell has not fractured his leg as first feared.

The 20-year-old injured his leg during the 28-13 loss to Saracens on Sunday.

Head coach Miker Brewer said: "The good news is that there is no fracture, or even strain. It looks like he'll have a chance of being fit for Friday."

Gaskell became the youngest captain in the Premiership rugby history when he was handed the club captaincy at the age of 20 years and 106 days.

Brewer added: "The factor that will determine whether James can play will be whether he is able to train on Wednesday.

"Had he been ruled out for a week or two I wouldn't have been overly concerned but, obviously, it is good news that the injury isn't what we first feared."

Apart from the doubt around Gaskell the club have reported there are no new injury concerns.
