Doherty has played for England under-19s and under-20s

Sale wing David Doherty has called on his Sharks team-mates to produce their best against the big clubs.

Sale have lost their last two Premiership outings to sit seven points adrift of leaders Bath.

Former Wasps player Doherty, 21, told BBC Radio Manchester: "Now, we just need to gel together and for a few of the boys to put their hands up.

"We need them to say 'I should be counted for the big games when they come - the Wasps and Leicester games'."

He added: "Hopefully, if the boys do play well, we'll be accounting for games like that. I think we've got a really, really good squad with a lot of talented players."

Sale go to Adams Park to face Wasps this weekend in the Premiership.
