Hook announced his Perpignan move at a north Wales press conference

James Hook has told new club Perpignan that he wants to figure at fly-half for them next season.

With Stephen Jones at number 10 for Wales and Dan Biggar preferred there for the Ospreys 25-year-old Hook has had to make do with a centre role.

But though Perpignan will have a new coach when he arrives in July, Hook wants the pivot position.

"I have expressed that I want to play outside-half for them next season," confirmed Hook.

"I think they have got a new coach coming in as well next season so it's obviously up to him where he sees me.

"I can play in three or four different positions. All I can do is express where I want to play and take nothing for granted."

Hook also hinted that the move would give him a better chance of European success, which he has failed to achieve the Ospreys.

And he will be joining a club who have already reached the 2010-11 Heineken Cup quarter-finals.

"Yes hopefully [we can have European success]. Whatever club you play you want to win things," added Hook, who is currently having French lessons.

"With the Ospreys we have won the Magners League on several occasions, but unfortunately for us this season Europe went out of the window again.

Hook follows the likes of English trio Jonny Wilkinson, Tom Palmer and James Haskell into French club rugby.

And treads a path taken by his current Wales colleague Stephen Jones, who played for Clermont Auvergne a few years ago before rejoining the Scarlets, and ex-Wales skipper Gareth Thomas who had a successful stint with Toulouse.

"What I hear from speaking to the boys, like Stephen [Jones] and boys like that, they have said it's wonderful [and] great.

"Stephen has always been a good person. but as player he definitely flourished out there.

"He came back a superb player and I think he was player of the year one year out there in France. So it shows how well he did out there."
