Marshall will play at the Liberty Stadium for another two seasons |
Justin Marshall has extended his contract with the Ospreys, taking him until the end of the 2008/9 season. Last week the 33-year-old scrum-half, who won 81 New Zealand caps, pledged his loyalty to the Welsh region in the face of rumours he could leave early.
Now Marshall has added action to his words to lengthen the two-year deal he signed on arrival in April 2006.
"The team treat me well, I'm managed well. The Ospreys are fantastic," Marshall said.
The signing of Wales scrum-half Mike Phillips from rival Welsh region Cardiff Blues had increased speculation that Marshall could quit the Liberty Stadium early.
French giants Stade Francais were believed to be among the leading contenders vying for the scrum-half's services.
But Marshall will now contest the Ospreys number nine shirt with Phillips for another two years.
Despite losing Sunday's EDF Energy Cup final against Leicester, going down 41-35 at Twickenham, Marshall was still convinced that his future lies in Wales.
Ospreys director of rugby Kevin Hopkins said: "We are delighted that a player of Justin's calibre has shown commitment to the region by extending the term of his contract.
"This not only demonstrates his loyalty to this region, but also reflects well on the region as a whole and on its ambition."
