David Bishop has missed almost two season with a knee fracture |
Ospreys centre David Bishop will start his season with Welsh Premiership side Bridgend as he is eased back into competitive rugby after injury. The 23-year-old has missed almost two full seasons after having two operations on the kneecap he fractured playing at Munster in September 2005.
Ospreys director of rugby Kevin Hopkins says Bishop must not be rushed back.
"There is no way you can simply throw a player back into regional rugby after such a serious injury," Hopkins said.
Bridgend finished 10th in the Welsh Premiership last season but have already strengthened for the new campaign by enticing former Wales prop Peter Rogers out of retirement.
Hopkins told the Ospreys website that the Ravens would provide an ideal testing ground for Bishop as he feels his way back after injury.
'"David is a talented player and we are delighted to see him back, but we owe it to him not to expect too much too soon," Hopkins added.
'"At Bridgend there will be plenty of opportunities for games and plenty of chances for David to get back up to speed."
