The highly talented Spencer won 35 caps for the All Blacks |
Carlos Spencer insists he has not visited Agen for talks on a move to France and says he is committed to a final year at Northampton. The 31-year-old has over a year left on his Saints contract but Agen claim he visited their base last week.
But the mercurial Kiwi fly-half said: "I've not been to Agen and I am spending my future with Northampton.
"That's all I have to say on the matter as I am more than happy to spend my last season with the Saints."
Saints are second from bottom of the Premiership but the former All Black added: "I have loved my time here. The rugby is not going great at the moment but I am remaining positive and although we are in a hole, we believe we can get ourselves out of it.
"We have got to keep fighting on. The guys are trying hard and it is frustrating because the results are not going our way. We are just lacking a bit of confidence. But we have got another eight games to go and our focus is now on Leicester."
Northampton have also signed Barry Everitt from London Irish for next season but coach Paul Grayson says the team can accomodate both fly-halves.
"We have signed Barry Everitt to bring a renowned kicker into the mix," said Grayson.
"I believe there is room for both Barry and Carlos on the field with the latter comfortable at outside centre and full-back, positions where he can put his pace and skills to good use.
"Carlos has said he is happy to play anywhere in the backline for the sake of this club which will give us flexibility and strength in pivotal positions, also giving Stephen Myler two ideal role models from which he can learn his trade.
"The competition for places will also be healthy, which benefits everyone."
Spencer, who won 35 caps for the All Blacks, joined Northampton in 2005. He has made 48 appearances for the Saints and scored nine tries.
