Turner says Aled Brew will be a Dragon again by Monday |
Newport Gwent Dragons boss Paul Turner has set his sights on returning Aled Brew to the Wales squad as the wing prepares to join from Cardiff Blues. Turner says assistant coach Lyn Jones will play a part in helping his former Ospreys charge Brew achieve that aim. "If we can get Aled Brew making as few errors as possible, then Aled Brew will be back in the national set-up," said the Dragons boss. "I can assure you of that because he's got the rest of things to his game." Brew spent the 2006-07 season at the Dragons on loan from the Ospreys. Turner said Brew will return to the Dragons by Monday and will bring an added edge to their armoury. | 606: DEBATE |
"He'll bring us that little bit of power that both the Brew [Aled and Bristol's Nathan] boys had and being the physical specimen that he is he'll bring that added physicality and the ability to score tries. "Sometimes on the field one or two mistakes and his whole game goes. "It's up to us now, knowing the animal really, that we sit down with him and try and get him back to where he was when he left. "Obviously the coaching is different. Lyn's come in now instead of David Rees. Lyn's bringing a lot to us on that aspect." Brew rejoined the Ospreys for an unproductive year before agreeing a switch to the Arms Park. A knee injury has hindered his chances, and he has been playing for Cardiff and Pontypridd in the Welsh Premiership. Turner also confirmed that the reason for Andy Williams's departure was the long-term hip injury that had prevented the scrum-half playing for seven months. Turner said: "It was a board decision here that it was seven months gone by and there was no sign of seeing him back on the field. "You know, in this increasingly difficult time finance-wise - and all businesses are going through it - I think they had to look at it. "Let's hope he gets his career back on the road, really."
