Beale takes Dragons manager role

Newport-Gwent Dragons

Newport Gwent Dragons have named Robert Beale as rugby manager for the next three seasons while predecessor Jim McCreedy joins the region's board.

Beale managed Wales Under-20 at the IRB Junior World Championship in Wales in June and quits as Cross Keys director of rugby to take up his new role.

Beale said: "I'm enthusiastic about the region's objective to ensure young talent will emerge from the area.

Dragons boss Gethin Jenkins said: "This is a key appointment."

Beale began his playing career at Risca, where he gained Wales Under-19 honours, and spent six years at Newbridge from 1979.

He has since coached at those clubs, Ebbw Vale and Cross Keys.

Jenkins added: "I would like to place on record our thanks to Cross Keys for their support.

"I am pleased that we have been able to retain Jim, whose knowledge and experience will be invaluable."
