Second-row Charteris retains international ambitions |
Wales lock Luke Charteris will skipper Newport Gwent Dragons in the first six games of the Magners League season. The 6ft 10ins giant, 24, takes the chance with regular skipper Kevin Morgan on World Cup duty with Wales, along with Colin Charvis and Mike Owen.
Charteris has six caps to his name, but injury, knee and ankle problems last year continued to disrupt his injury-riddled career.
"It's a new challenge being captain and it'll be special," said Charteris.

"We've got quite a young squad, I'm one of the more experienced players now and I'll do what I can to help - the drive is there and it's an easy squad to lead.
"We'll have to see on the international front, but I've had a good pre-season and I'm feeling good."
Charteris' first game in charge will be Saturday's Magners League opener against Llanelli Scarlets at Stradey Park.
"I'm looking forward to it, we've been on the wrong end of a few hidings there, so it's a challenge," said Charteris.
"But we go down there with confidence, we've had a good pre-season and we've got a lot of talented players in our squad."
